Antonio ‘Tony’ Doctor

Antonio ‘Tony’ Doctor, with his Bachelor of Fine Arts, magna cum laude, from the University of Santo Tomas, Unesco Fellowship from a university in Thailand, and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, U.S.A., is the most academically prepared member of the Philippine Artists Group of Canada. Tony’s stint with the academe continued when he became Art Head Teacher at Letran College in Manila in the ’50s, an art teacher in his alma mater, U.S.T. in 1957-58, and a visiting professor at the University of the Philippines’ College of Fine Arts in 1976-1977. In Canada, with his impressive credentials as artist and art educator, he was readily accepted into the faculty of the University of Windsor, rising from the ranks to become Associate Professor and subsequently, Director of its Fine Arts department. Tony is also a multi-awarded civic leader and an ardent believer in the Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. As a Knight of Rizal and the founding Chapter Commander of the Windsor OKR, the very first chapter in Canada, he garnered a number of awards and distinctions from the order and was later appointed the first Regional Commander for Canada by the Supreme Council in Manila. Tony is one of the founding fathers and a most distinguished member of PAG.
